No. Wild Echo Sentinel is an acoustic monitoring and decision-support tool. It identifies acoustic patterns that correlate with hive health changes, including those associated with Varroa-stressed colonies. When Wild Echo flags a concern, we recommend following up with a physical mite count before treating. Acoustic monitoring gives you earlier warning signals, not a definitive diagnosis.
How accurate are the acoustic health indicators?
Wild Echo's hive diagnostics system analyses wingbeat frequency distribution, amplitude variance and spectral patterns. Research literature supports correlations between these acoustic parameters and stressed colony states. Wild Echo has developed proprietary acoustic classifiers trained on Australian hive recordings. Published benchmark data is available on our research page.
Does Sentinel replace physical inspections?
No. Sentinel complements physical inspections by giving you information about what is happening between visits. When Sentinel flags an acoustic change, a physical inspection and mite count is the recommended next step. Sentinel helps you prioritise which hives to inspect first and ensures you are not caught by surprise between scheduled visits.
How does Sentinel connect to upload data?
Sentinel supports Wi-Fi connectivity for apiaries within range of a network, and a cellular (SIM) option for remote sites. In areas with no connectivity, onboard SD card storage buffers recordings until connectivity is available. Setup is done through the Wild Echo app and takes under 10 minutes.
When will Sentinel be available?
Sentinel is currently in its pilot program phase. We are working with commercial beekeepers to deploy units in the field. Pilot participants receive hardware at cost price and direct input into the product. Register your interest through the pilot program form and we will be in touch about availability and timing.
How does Sentinel integrate with Hive Manager?
Sentinel data feeds directly into your Hive Manager dashboard. Each hive's acoustic health score, trend data and alert history sits alongside your manual inspection records, varroa counts, treatment logs and feeding records. One complete hive record in one place.
What does the pilot program involve?
Pilot participants receive Sentinel hardware at cost price, priority technical support, and direct input into product development. We ask for regular feedback on your experience and permission to use anonymised acoustic data to improve our AI models. There is no long-term commitment required.
